How Does Energy Efficiency Create Jobs?
Over the past few months there has been much discussion about how many new jobs are created through clean energy and what should be classified as a clean energy job.
The following fact sheet, developed by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, shows how investment in energy-efficient upgrades can stimulate the economy by creating hundreds more jobs than would be realized by a business-as-usual approach of continuing the use of old technologies.
As an example, the fact sheet walks through the impact when a city decides to use $15 million of its revenue to improve energy efficiency in public buildings. As the figure to the right shows, these improvements end up saving the city $3 million a year for 20 years.
